As a rule, I generally stick to my favorite genres...but I'll read any novel (or novella) that catches my attention. Honor Code's book description did just that.In a small, southern town an elderly widower disappears under questionable circumstances. Detective Larry Robbins knows in his gut George Beason needs help...and he intends to find him before it's too late.
The opening scene is powerful in its imagery and emotion. I connected immediately with both the victim and the hero. George Beason had to be found, and Robbins had to find him.
Though this police procedural is fast paced, the book never lost my interest. I also enjoyed the secondary characters. They added layers to the story that made me forget I was reading a novella. That doesn't happen often.
Honor Code is a great read that I would recommend to anyone that loves mysteries...and the fact it features characters from Ms Perkins' debut novel The Professor makes it even better!

Honor Code A Mystery Novella edition by Cathy Perkins Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
A good short mystery that did not disappoint. The characters are believable and the story enjoyable. The mystery part of the story kept me guessing until the end.
In "Honor Code," a police procedural novella, the author deftly draws each character, from the veteran detective Larry Robbins, who's investigating the disappearance of a missing elderly man, to Beatrice Munson, the hardened mother of suspect. You see the characters in your mind and you understand them. But I bet you won't see the ending coming! Very nice twists!
This is a great little novella featuring characters from her recent debut novel, The Professor. I flew through it in one night because I couldn't put down the fast-paced story. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and was surprised by the twists and turns. I can't wait to see more out of this author!
This is a very well written, quite short mystery that is a compelling, interesting read. The only negative is of course the length, or lack of. You just get fully invested in the story and the characters and then it's over. I'm glad to read anything by this author and hope for a full length novel soon.
The timeless descriptions began with the first paragraph and continued throughout the story. Ms. Perkins tale is unique because the reader not only follows the manhunt, but also the struggles of the detective in his private life. I also enjoyed the southern backdrop of her story that can only be told by a person who lived there.
This was pretty good. The story made sense and the characters were consistent. The problem I see with it, is that I never felt I knew any of the characters. In fact until reading the reviews here, I didn't know the main character's name.
But well worth the time.
Honor Code isn't the kind of book I usually read. It's darker and grittier than I'm used to, but I still enjoyed the mystery. Set in my home state, the story follows the movements of a detective in a small town as he works to uncover whether the disappearance of an old man is due to foul play. The more Robbins pokes around, the more questions he uncovers. After a violent start to the book, it settles into the search and how the police work to stop a deadly crime.
Cathy Perkins knows how to keep the reader guessing. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Honor Code and look forward to picking up her future releases. I recommend Honor Code to readers of realistic mysteries.
